Module 15 - Anthropocene
Can we become a collaborator with the natural world rather than one of its most dangerous antagonists?
This question seems to be one that is being asked more and more frequently, not just amongst ourselves but with world leaders. In the last 3 decades, the issue of global warming and ecology has come up. In fact, it is now at a place of ranking to the level of that of our economy, unemployment, and COVID protocols. As the article pointed out, the images of stipe mining and the aftermath of human ingenuity and technology have recarved the surface of this planet we call home. Knowing that this is our only place of survival, it is no wonder that our "need" for more technology could not be used to find more eco-friendly methods of gathering these required resources to better our lives.
The use of AI and supercomputers would allow us to find additional resources or supplements for these rare minerals needed to fuel our future. It was said that solar power could only assist a tiny amount in helping to solve the issue of fossil fuels, and now that idea has fueled and grown a soon to be a trillion-dollar auto manufacturer. To quote Jeff Goldblum in the movie Jurassic Park; "Life finds a way". So why can't we find other solutions?
