Module 14
Some fear that democracy is in danger. Are they right? Please write a blog post exploring one of the following two statements:
2) American-style democracy is a relic of the early Modern era. It no longer satisfies the needs and desires of its citizens. As a result, voters and leaders increasingly undermine its foundations rather than bolster them. By the time we are firmly established in a “post-Modern” world, democracy will have been shown to be fatally flawed, and will have given way to new forms of government in the USA and throughout the world.
Looking at the world right now, we can confidentially say; "Yes, Democracy is in Danger". The unlimited potential of the United States has been something that has always separated us from other nations, and when Americans pulled together could not be matched by our fight and drive to achieve a goal. These trying times have been pushing these limits with our economy, education, and our national mental health.
Seeing other foreign nations providing way more assistance to their citizens (by thousands of dollars monthly) compared to the American public receiving $600 and some additional unemployment is a shock, to say the least. To see that Americans are complacent when offered a few dollars while allowing companies and corporations to amass a huge amount of wealth with the intention of never repaying this loan debt aka bailout.
The whispers of revolt are no longer in the shadows, but openly hard on the news, our general conversations, and our newly beloved social media counterpart. We all need to be prepared for what is to come. A new world, a new economy, and a new way of life, this is how Democracy will need to change or not survive the next paradigm shift.
