Module 10
Is the American experiment changing its vision?
Progress demands intellectual engagement with the future. Science... what does science demand?
In the last 20 years, the world has gone through a massive evolutionary change. The integration of social media, the introduction of handheld computers called cell phones, and the expansion of the internet to all parts of the world has catapulted all societies into an international society. Whether we like it or not, our way (American) way of life has already changed, we just have not been awake to notice it. Our way of life, be it Democratic with an emphasis on Capitalism is changing minute by minute, second by second. The way we know life is now an algorithm which is governed by artificial intelligence programming.
Our studies throughout the modern era have been a self-awakening of our thoughts, dreams, self-awareness, and our place in the galaxy. The freedom to think and expand our mind has been going on for hundreds of years now, we have been governed by our dreams and ideas of God/s, energy, and other powers in the universe. All of these expansions have given us a better way of thinking about how our civilization should flourish, the question is, will we be also changing our governing system to match our global mindset?
Democracy is an idea that began in Greece, a civilization that initially began this quest of seeing where humans fit into the puzzle of life and the universe. Granted, these ideas were far thought of but laid down the foundation of equality or at least the idea of an entire society being equal and heard with one voice. History has taught us that we must learn from our past to avoid failures in the future. Greece was rocked to its core and did not survive the global shift that was coming. We, as Americans have embraced their teachings and base our government on its ideals. The US grew to become a world power, a beckon of hope to aspire to. Well, this concept is no longer American, it has transferred itself to other reaches of the world. The expansion of other nations thinking the same way we do, demands a new hierarchal system to govern and set standards for our next metamorphosis in our lives.
In this election, we have seen how science, media, technology, and communication has changed and echoed the voices of its members into a resounding and thunderous voice, demanding change! This change will also include how "We the People" see Democracy. Understanding the rights and equality of All People is something that our current system is unable to maintain. Like Greece's, WE have reached a plateau in our development. To incorporate the wants and desires of ALL, concessions will need to be made, and not everyone's choices are allowed.
A growth for ALL, with one resounding voice, will need to be our next stage in development and growth with our government. Democracy in other successful nations has morphed into a Democratic Socialist construct. This construct incorporates the voice of all members but has a communal baseline that is something our nation has not experienced. We know how to work together, but do we? We all know how to be civil, but are we? I believe in the next few years, we will be seeing the birth of a new way to work and live with one another in a more communal, more socialist way of democracy.
