Write a blog post reflecting on “modernity.” What is it?

Modernity is a way of life using the most current technology that society has to offer. The use of new and creative ways of improving our current standard of living. To be as forward as possible in evolving in the quickest way by incorporating the best of the best our communities have to offer.

Does it make sense to mark the beginning of the modern period with the European Renaissance?

Yes, during the late medieval time period in Europe, a challenge in the establishment grew. Education was becoming something that more and more people sought. The expansion of the common mind began to expand and question rules and doctrines from the church. An awakening had begun a spanning from the former Roman empire through Ital, branching out to Spain, France, the Netherland, and other regions of Europe.

How would you summarize the positions of Plato and Aristotle on democracy?

Plato and Aristotle were very blunt and direct when it came down to defining democracy. In the article, Aristotle's thinking on democracy ahs more relevance than ever, it says, "Aristotle’s key objection to democracy was that it undermined the rule of law", " In a puredemocracy, the will of the majority is sovereign, not the law, not the state. If the people decide someone should be executed, they are executed and no law against capital punishment can stop that."

Democracy is the decision of the people as was whole, no other ruling or law can supersede that decision.

Why do you suppose these kinds of writings resonated for some Europeans who lived during the late Medieval period and early years of the Renaissance?

The control and darkness from the dark ages period was harsh, limited in education, and kept the "people's minds diminished and lacking creativity. ORDER was the theme and no other option was available. To begin to challenge rules, notions, and even dream of a better life was forbidden. Control would begin to collapse and the elite few would lose their grasp of the many.

Do some research online and see if you can learn which classes of Renaissance Europeans were the ones who read Classical philosophy like Plato and Aristotle…

The higher levels of clergy, priest, and statesmen were the ones that studied Plato and Aristotle and conveyed the writings in their own poems, writings, and understanding of their times.

How did Europeans at the time obtain translations of these Classical Greek texts? Greek manuscripts and scholarly writings came by trade, travel, and the crusades into the West. Arabic, Syrian, Roman teachings and writings were already exp[loring the writings of Aristotle and Plato and were being transmitted via stories and text long before the Renaissance expansion. It flourished, even more, when other European nations were exposed coming from the large trading cities of Florence and Venice from the old world into the new world (Europe).
